Gaming

Fast downloads. A lag spike when it matters.

A speed test can look fine while the link to an upstairs PC or console keeps pausing. Online games punish those short interruptions instantly, and a faster broadband package does nothing for the hop between the router and the bedroom.

Where to start

Is the spike coming from inside your house?

Lag has more than one cause. Work out which one you've got before spending money on it.

  1. It still lags on a lead plugged straight into the router.

The problem is further out: the game server, your provider, or a busy line at peak times.

  2. One machine stutters wherever you take it.

Check that console or PC: its network settings, drivers, or a download running in the background.

  3. Downstairs it plays smoothly. In the bedroom, the spikes return.

The wifi between router and room is dropping packets. A cable takes it out of the path.

    What we fix

Try it for one evening: run a long Ethernet lead from the router to the console, if you can do it safely. If the spikes vanish, a permanent cable is worth having. If they don't, tell us before you book.

    Free survey

We look at the outside route, the router, and where the console or PC sits.

    A fixed price in writing

No surprises on the day. A single room costs from £450.

  3. 3

    Fitted in about a day

No carpets up and nothing to redecorate. The cable stays outdoors until it reaches the bedroom.

  4. 4

    Tested in the room

We check the new socket before we leave, so you know the link itself is sound.

A wired run removes the wireless link in your house. It does not promise a particular ping, fix a distant server or remove every cause of lag.

Does your house fit?

    Front rooms only

A gaming room at the back needs a way round. One at the front of a mid terrace can go straight up the front wall. The free survey tells you which, and you're welcome to hear no.

Where's the router, and where do you play?

We'll check the route to the room and price one cable. Rooms start from £450, and the quote is fixed before anything is drilled.
